The Bitter Sweet End...

Well, I"m crying a little bit inside. Crying for kickball. I'm so sad the regular season has come to an end. But it was a blast! and I"m totally pumped for the playoffs (look out ball busters, uniballs are gonna get you!)

It was a set of colorful pairings this week. red vs red, green vs green, blue vs blue and hte hallowween game (orange vs black). The wrecking balls started off early arriving early in the afternoon to claim the pcinic table for their pre-game tailgate. They nicely invited me to join them (i was rehydrating so no alcohol for me just then). Though there were some tempting jelllo shots (red flavored, of course). and I couldnt resist their funfetti cupcakes. That got them revved up for their last game, but sadly their pre-gaming wasnt enough and they fell to the Abe Lincolns.

Our game started off slow. Team Awesome had an awesome turnout. They know how to bring it to the fields. We almost didnt have enough players, but Sara T drown cross the state to give us just enough numbers. phew! The pitcher on TA was throwing fast balls which totally made me nervous. bunting was out of the picture. We could hardly get to the plate in time to kick them. For me, it didnt work out so well- I was all about kicking foul balls and easily caught pop flies. But it did work out for the ringers on my team who nailed them. As far as fielding goes Sara Smiley and Andy were totally our team rockstars. Team Awesome was a hard team to beat, we got lucky (or we got skillz) and had a killer inning- 8 runs with 2 outs that put us ahead. Int he last inning, TA got fiesty with a new found kickball helmet, which they hoped to be a good luck charm. Unfortunatley for them, it takes more that luck to beat the Uniballs.

I was on pins and needles watching one of the next game- Balls Deep vs Ball Busters. The game started out with loud cheers from either side- Balls Deep with their signature eye of the tiger chant. Ball Buster had a little cheer and dance of their own, which was new to me. Still, nothing beats the cartwheels by Balls Deep's Chandra. they were chantastic. I was cheering hard for Balls Deep (ok, perhaps for selfish reason) and they were doing alright, until I left to take pics of the other game (and to grab a blanket from my car- it was a little chilly). When I returned they had fallen behind! So they lost to the number one team in the league, (number one now, but not for long!)

I was thrilled with the turn out at CM's. Team Awesome showed no hard feelings and invited us Uniballs to join their table. Team Awesome delivered with some good quotes (see the Overheard... section) and good comraderie. A date to go rockclimbing came out and an invite for indoor soccer. I think i like Team Awesome. And from where we were we could hear Balls Deep from the other end of the bar. They were living it up. And I even caught a bit of a beer chugging contest between 2 men and 1 woman. who won? the lady of course! kickball women really know how to handle their beer. she good some good compliments from the locals at the bar who were totally wowed.

Play Offs!

The playoffs will start at 12 noon this Sunday and the Championship game will be at 3pm.The league will be providing some sort of snacks and refreshments throughout the day. So, if anyone if planning on grilling, let us know and we can pitch in some burgers and dogs.

Balls Deep

Although we lost 6-2, we still finished 3rd and have a lot going for us going into the playoffs. Look- we're the best looking, youngest, most athletic, coolest, everyone wants to be us.

Balls of Glory

BOG ended the season on a high note - both having ever more fun as a team and managing a win too! We played "the other green team" (?ultimate ballz) and it was a great match tied 1-1 going into the 4th. We managed to pull out a good inning and hold them in the last 2 winning (?) 7-1. My favorite quote was that Jackson, my 3-legged dog had a "natural pimp walk". We have one bad-ass mascot! He'll be there to cheer us on at the playoffs! Go BOG!

Wrecking Balls

Way to pull it together for the last regular season game Lincolns! This week’s game had some fantastic plays and was lots of fun! Offensively, there was nice base running all around, and remarkably, everyone that has a name that starts with a “J” scored 3 runs each!! (Jax, Jenn, & Justin!!!) Notably, Jax got a base on balls (yes, I just wanted to say “balls”) in the third and then when the Wrecking Balls tried to intentionally walk Justin, he got one of the best kicks of the game! Way to go! Defensively, while Herm and Jax did have a nice tag team out, Pete and Stacey were the MVPs for their respective genders, with the “game ball” winner of Pete. P.S. Wrecking Balls, Good Game & thanks for the Funfetti!
