What I Missed....

This Week!
Despite my best efforts, I was unable to catch the games this sunday. I was busy puking my brains out. but, in my stead, a play by play from guest blogger, Chris (who, writes pretty damn good):

The Abe Lincolns turned out in impressive force with a Gazebo and grill and must have been there at least 3 hours before to get prepared. There were still partying when I left. I promised to pass along the message that we're the "best team, ever"

I reffed Team Awesome vs Ball Busters in the first game. Unfortunately for Team Awesome it was the Ball Busters which appeared to deserve the name. Even with their huge squad, they were able to work their through the entire roster in the first inning, scoring an impressive 10 runs in the process. Ball busters couldn't keep that heady pace up however, and were only able to score sparsely in the rest of the game. Team Awesome heads went down, but they managed to avoid the bagel in the penultimate innings. I think the final score was 12-1 to Ballbusters.

I wasn't able to watch the other early game, but it must have been very exciting judging by the large amount of noise emanating from their field. I've been told that Balls Deep were the eventual winners, with a score line of 7ish to 2ish (I forgot to ask either team). I did see Hugh of Wrecking Balls sliding below the ball for a daring run.

Both Ultimate Balls and Yale Sofa King Athletic were a little low on numbers, but the able was to proceed. Sofa Kings won the RoShamBo and took to the field first. It was a very close game, with Ultimate Balls taking the early lead, but never establishing a cushion. The newly-clarified ground-rule double judgment robbed Sofa Kings of two runs, and the lead. Going into the bottom of the fifth the score was 7-6 meaning Sofa Kings needed only one run to draw even, and 2 runs for their first victory. Some fast thinking in the field meant that Ultimate Balls were able to hold out, and scrape a win. (final score 7-6)

Abe Lincolns were well prepared for their match after hours of warming up, and the consumption of traditional sport supplements (pre-match grilled meat and alcohol have a history since their invention by King Leonidas of Sparta). It paid off, as they were able secure their first victory of the campaign despite a strong performance by the Balls of Glory. The final score was 10-6, and the Lincolns set in for long evening celebrating.

Word Up From the Captains (The Captain's Corner)
Balls of Glory
tough time for Americans...tough time for BOGgers (Balls of Glory players). We are 1-3..that is not so impressive. The Abe Lincolns overpowered us in later innings with intense base coaching and pitching. They mean business; they will cut you. But I think that intensity has cost them a piece of their soul.
BOG is clearly building some skills and having increasingly more fun but that isn't always translating into putting up the "w"s. And dammit, we want it all! We already have the fun factor, model good looks (and I am pumping up my heckling muscles) and now we are going for the wins!! and if we fall short ...well, BOG could suddenly stand for going down in a Blaze Of Glory!

Balls Deep

Sofa Kings
No shout outs this week, I'm tired.
